The first construction of the Cathedral dates back to the Byzantine period, between the fourth and fifth centuries. During the Arab rule the building was transformed into a mosque, and only in 1072 it returned to Christian worship. In 1170, then, given the not optimal conditions, it was decided to rebuild the Cathedral making it even more majestic, just as you can see today. Image Norman Palace The Norman Palace, just like the Cathedral, has an ancient history that has seen the succession of numerous domains. The Palace, in fact, was built by the Arabs, but it was the Normans, from whom it takes its name, to make this building the wonder that it is today, making it also the oldest royal residence in Europe. The Palace includes many rooms, such as the Palatine Chapel, the halls of the royal apartments and the royal gardens, which make the building a spectacle both inside and outside. Image Beach of Mondello You cannot visit Sicily without making at least one stop in its wonderful sea. The beach of Mondello, located a few kilometres from the city, is one of the most popular beaches of Palermo. But the crystal-clear sea, the fine white sand and the many clubs and shops make it a perfect tourist destination. Extending for about 1.5 kilometres, the beach of Mondello is perfect to spend a day sunbathing under the Sicilian sun, but also to practice and learn different water sports.
