The Romagna Riviera

The Romagna Riviera

The Romagna Riviera is the part of coast overlooking the Adriatic Sea that goes from the city of Ravenna to Rimini and it’s one of the most popular beach holiday destinations in all of Italy. Every summer, the beaches of Romagna are crowded by tourists that come not only from Italy but from all over Europe to enjoy a holiday full of relaxation and fun.

Here is what the Romagna Riviera can offer you!

The locations: let’s explore the Riviera

Starting from the north, in the province of Ravenna, there are Lidi Ravennati: nine beaches extended for 35 km that are the wildest part of the entire Riviera, with uncontaminated areas of the coast, but there are also plenty of equipped beaches and services for the tourists. Among the cities of this part of the Riviera there are Marina Romea, Marina di Ravenna, Lido di Classe and Lido di Savio.

Right after Lido di Savio, you will enter Milano Marittima, known for its nightlife and for the prestigious clubs often visited by celebrities. Cervia, on the other hand, is a more peaceful port town, where the typical sweet salt of Cervia is produced in the salt pans. Pinarella and Tagliata are two locations characterized by the large pine forest that separates the beach from the city, where you can practice jogging or have long walks.

Between Ravenna and Rimini there is a small stretch of coast that is part of the province of Forlì-Cesena. Here we find Cesenatico, that once was a fishing village, with its picturesque canal harbor, historic boats and pastel-colored houses. In the surroundings you can easily reach Valverde, Villamarina and Gatteo a Mare, more peaceful locations, ideal for families with children.

We then enter the province of Rimini, the southern part of the Riviera. The first village you will find on the way is Bellaria-Igea Marina, a perfect village for those who want to simply relax by the sea. Rimini immediately follows, undoubtably the best-known city of all the Riviera. Here you can admire many Roman pieces of architecture such as the Arch of Augustus and the Tiberius bridge, although nowadays the city is famous for its nightlife and the numerous events that take place there throughout the summer.

After Rimini, there is Riccione, another city known for its nightlife offer, but also for being the city of fashion: in Viale Ceccarini, the heart of the city, you will find many boutiques and many major labels shops.

Finally, there is Cattolica, the enchanting port city that is also the southernmost town of the Romagna Riviera, on the border between Emilia-Romagna and Marche region.

The sea and the beaches

Spread on many kilometers of the Adriatic coast, the beaches of the Riviera have many characteristics in common: they are wide in length and depth, they have super fine golden sand, calm and clean waters and shallow sandy seafloors. All these features make them perfect for everyone, both for adults and kids.

On the Riviera you will find both public beaches and beach clubs. Beach clubs are facilities that offer all kinds of services to the tourists like beach umbrellas and seabeds for you to relax under the sun, but also bars, restaurants, swimming pools, water sports equipment, beach volleyball and beach tennis courts and so on. Beach clubs also offer all sort of entertainment for children: professional entertainers, games, inflatables, water games and much more.

Hotels and restaurants

The Romagna Riviera has services to suit all budgets. In addition to beach clubs, which have all kind of equipment to spend the whole day at the beach, on the Riviera you can find an accommodation suitable for all of your needs: hotels, luxury accommodations, resorts, bed and breakfasts, apartments, campsites and areas for campervans. There are a lot of options but regardless of what you choose, you will be greeted by the warm hospitality of the people of Romagna!

A well-known highlight of Romagna region, therefore also of its RIviera, is the great gastronomic tradition. On the Riviera you can taste all the specialties of Romagna cuisine at restaurants both in the countryside or on the beach. For a quick meal don’t miss the stands that sell Piadina, book a table at the traditional restaurants serving dishes made with fresh fish, or treat yourselves at refined gourmet restaurants.

Nightlife and events

For late night dancers or sunrise on the beach lovers, the Riviera is known for its crazy nightlife, mainly based in Milano Marittima, Rimini and Riccione. You can spend truly unforgettable nights at bars, nightclubs and even dancefloors on the beach that offer djsets almost every night of the week. Throughout the summer, numerous events and concerts of all kind are held in the Riviera. The main event is certainly Notte Rosa (the Pink Night): during the first weekend of July the whole Riviera, from Ravenna to Rimini, is painted in pink. Shows, events, exhibitions and fireworks are held in every city, creating a truly unique atmosphere where you’ll have a lot of fun, for sure!
